He was clearing snow outside his home in Nevada when the snowplow he was using started to roll. Renner tried to get back in the driver's seat of the moving vehicle to keep it from hitting his nephew. The accident left him with 30 broken bones, including eight ribs, his right knee and ankle and right shoulder, along with a pierced liver and a collapsed lung.

Renner was hospitalized for more than two weeks and underwent several surgeries. He has since made a full recovery.
