On Saturday 16th July 2022 Anonymous Club - led by designer and creative director Shayne Oliver - launched COLLECTION 01 - WE BLEED GREEN .
The looks were launched in the club, at a new party series created by Anonymous Club called CLUB COUTURE - which ran over one of the rooms at Boiler Room’s Avant Gardner NYC take over. It was Anonymous Club’s second total work (dubbed DEMONSTRATION II) - a demonstration of their practice across music, fashion and art. The first DEMONSTRATION was the three night festival HEADLESS over NYC Fashion week in February 2022 at The Shed.
CLUB COUTURE ran from 10pm till 4am and featured artists Babyxsosa, Nation, Meth Math, DJ Assault, Ayegy, Izzy Spears, Earthearter and LEECH. After first looks pre-show, the models attended the club; CLUB COUTURE in motion. Models included the artists Ayegy, Meth Math and Babyxsosa.
The clothes present a vision of extreme comfort with elevated construction. The collection takes the Club Kid uniform of Ts, jeans, tracksuit jackets, joggers and alters the silhouettes to freek-ish effect - a custom cut techno-futurist wardrobe. Some pieces make you think going to the club is a competitive sport - with the decaying whites stripes on the blue track jackets a seeming sincere nod to Varsity gear, the Abercrombie & Fitch dream of academic athletics teams. Then the shoulders and blown up to grotesque proportions; this is subverted, this is gear for an alternative night sport.
With the Swarovski CLUB COUTURE logo Ts in brash colourways, the daytime bimbo uniform is reflected back in an altered state. Then there’s the cap emblazoned with CREATIVE DIRECTOR and the leather dunce cap; it’s double pointed conical ears not an article of discipline for the disruptive but a Utopian invitation for play.
Anonymous Club is also a record label. In sync with the CLUB COUTURE show, Oliver will share new music; an EP HEADLESS as his LEECH alter-ego this Friday 22nd July. The record is a sonic glitter shock of digital Industrial and twisted Ballroom. The HEADLESS EP is the next recorded music release from the multidisciplinary studio following 2021’s debut compilation SCREENSAVERS VOL.1.
