Hedi Slimane takes us to Norfolk for the Celine ‘Anglomania’ menswear collection
“IT IS NOW FASHIONABLE AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE TO COPY THE ENGLISH STYLE WHEN DRESSING.” Louis-sebastien Mercier. Tableau De Paris (1781)
Three decades in the making, Hedi Slimane’s latest Celine collection takes the Celine man from the Parisian streets to Holkham Hall, an 18th-century estate along Britain’s Norfolk coast, designed by William Kent for the 1st Earl of Leicester in grand Palladian fashion.
As A Student At The Ecole Du Louvre In The Late ’80s, Hedi Slimane Began Writing An Essay On Anglomania -- From The Comte D'artois, Who Initiated Anglomania At Versailles, To The Lions Des Boulevards, In The Wake Of Beau Brummel. He Was Also Researching Stephen James Napier Tennant (Recognised As The Original Party Animal) And Cecil Beaton Which Was Part Of His Entourage. With “the Bright Young” Collection, Hedi Slimane Revives This 30-year-old Project.
