Bringing the spirit of the new CHANEL Métiers d’art collection alive at street level, the Maison is creating exclusive installations in the windows of two iconic stores, Harrods and Selfridges Manchester. The multi layered mise en scene resonates with the vibrant pop cultural energy of the collection first revealed on Thomas Street, Manchester in December 2023.
The installations are rich in detail with each window staged as a domestic interior featuring a door in the background and a velvet effect decorative scheme so beloved in British homes. Jamie Hawkesworth’s candid portraits of young people in Manchester are hung on the walls alongside campaign images lensed by Mikael Jansson and visuals from Chaos SixtyNine CHANEL Manchester issue, a publication created exclusively for the Manchester show dedicated to the creative life and legends the city has born. Echoing the multi-hued tweed silhouettes that opened the show, pink, lilac and CHANEL’s emblematic beige feature throughout. The opulence is juxtaposed with optic stripes that refer to the iconic night club, La Hacienda and the MCR logo designed by Mancunian artist, Peter Saville that flashed up in the Sofia Coppola directed montage teaser for the show.
