Loewe - The Flamenco Surplus

Ingenuity and craft combine in the service of sustainability in LOEWE’s limited edition Flamenco Surplus, released this June. Striations of colour ripple across the bag’s soft, sensuous silhouette, with luxurious surplus leather repurposed by LOEWE’s artisans to create an imaginative homage to the natural world.

Building on LOEWE’s ongoing Surplus Project, the Flamenco Surplus is crafted from leftover leather from previous collections. LOEWE’s skilled team of artisans cut and compress sections of leather together before skiving each panel, a technique that involves removing thin layers from the surface to reveal undulating layers of colour. These tactile layers recall rock strata or topographical illustrations, inspired by nature’s ancient beauty.

First launched in the 1980s and redesigned by creative director Jonathan Anderson in 2015, the Flamenco is defined by the ‘Flamenco skirt’ effect created when its coiled knots are pulled to cinch the bag closed. Effortlessly malleable, the bag can be carried as a clutch, shoulder bag, or worn cross body.

LOEWE uses high quality, low impact materials across all its collections, with 93% of the house’s leather sourced from Leather Working Group certified tanneries. For the 2024 Fall Winter precollection the Flamenco Surplus clutch introduces four colourways: Pale Yellow / Apple Green, Mink / Caribbean Blue, Light Celadon / Prugna, and Avocado / Pearl Grey.

The Flamenco Surplus launches June 13 in selected Casa LOEWE and ReCraft stores worldwide.
