Since marriages in Japan must be between people, Kondo and Hatsune Miku's union was not recognised by the law. However, Kondo wed his hologram bride in a small gathering of people and even bought her a $2,800 wedding band.

Some expressed worry that these relationships would replace genuine human connections, while some saw Kondo's marriage as a cute display of his affection for the character.
