Speaking on Just Like Deto, Deto says, “I made the track last year with Grammy winning producer Cadenza. I wanted to talk my shit a little bit because I feel like people have perceptions of me and I never really speak on it. I’ve seen me and my friends on multiple moodboards from magazine cover stories to celebrities to the regular girl on Instagram; the girlies love the vibes lol. Also I love Vita’s song ‘Vita Vita Vita’ and I really loved how she used her name in the song. I also wanted to help people who aren’t Yoruba in pronouncing my name correctly”
About Deto Black:
Since the release of her scene-stealing appearance on Odunsi (The Engine)’s Body Count, Deto burst onto the music scene as a stand out artist whose undeniable talent has few peers. With an undergraduate degree in Social Anthropology and a masters in Global Governance, her intricate bars and witty quips on sex positive and gender inequality (especially in her hometown of Lagos) have shot her to the forefront of the cultural consciousness. Since then, she’s collaborated with the likes of Skepta, Unknown T, Ammarae & Lancey Foux, released a ground-breaking video directed by Aidan Zamiri for her debut single Tesla and modelled for childhood friend Mowalola, Skepta’s new Nike Tailwind campaign and was also the face of Theophilus London’s Off White collaboration.
