The creation of "Sit Down" holds personal significance for Konyikeh. She wrote the song in 2020 during the pandemic, marking one of her initial collaborations with a producer. Inspired by romantic comedies, the track explores a complex narrative from three different perspectives: a girlfriend feeling out of place, a mother comparing her to an ex, and a boyfriend caught in the middle. The song features a unique blend of guitar and violin, adding a distinctive touch to its tongue-in-cheek portrayal of a relatable situation.
Raised in Essex, England, Konyikeh's music is deeply rooted in her Cameroonian and Jamaican heritage, enriched by a diverse musical background. Her early exposure to classical music, musical theatre, and traditional African music, combined with her violin training from the age of seven, classical singing, and piano, has shaped her distinctive sound.
Konyikeh’s rise to prominence has been marked by notable achievements. Her powerful voice first gained significant attention at the 2022 BRIT Awards, where she performed with Dave during his rendition of "In The Fire." Since then, she has received accolades and support from prestigious outlets like The Guardian, The Fader, British Vogue, Wonderland, and BBC Radio, culminating in a memorable performance on the renowned online platform COLORS.
As a music scholar and Guildhall School of Music alumna, Konyikeh was trained to channel intense emotions into her performances—a practice that continues to define her work today. Despite facing challenges with her identity in predominantly white spaces growing up, she is now reconnecting with her heritage and rebuilding her confidence, marking a powerful new chapter in her career.
