While much of the focus is on Harry himself, his family background plays a significant role in shaping his journey. One of the most prominent figures in Harry's family is his father, James Potter.
James Potter was a pure-blood wizard born to Fleamont and Euphemia Potter, two affluent people. He was sorted into Gryffindor House at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he studied. He rapidly gained notoriety for his Quidditch prowess and mischievous ways. James first met Lily Evans, his future wife, at Hogwarts. Lily was a Muggle-born witch who first disapproved of James' actions before falling in love with him.
James joined the Order of Phoenix, a covert organisation created to combat the Dark Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters, after graduating from Hogwarts. Due to their affiliation with the Order and their rejection of Voldemort's ideas, James and Lily were now the subject of his anger. Unfortunately, Voldemort murdered James and Lily when Harry was just a baby.
James' life was short, but his son Harry carried on his legacy. Several of Harry's physical characteristics, such as his untidy black hair and round glasses, came from his father. His father's courage, sense of humour, and Quidditch abilities were also passed down to him. Harry frequently turns to the memories of his father, who he discovers was far more complex than the cocky, arrogant youth he had heard about, for guidance and solace during the course of the series.
