Shot by Stef Mitchell, Demna Gvasalia’s latest campaign captures “friends of the brand” — from Kim to Justin Bieber and Isabelle Hubert — at ease in the comfort of their homes
In case you’ve missed it, it’s official: Kim Kardashian is the face of Demna Gvasalia’s new Balenciaga campaign. Duh?! Some of you may think looking back on the otherworldly outfits designed by the creative director and former Re-Edition cover star for the almighty queen of social media over the last year; all hints of a collaboration that was simply bound to happen. From the wedding dress Kim wore at Kanye West’s iconic Donda tour to her Saturday Night Live’s crushed velvet pink catsuit, passing through the head-to-toe, faceless blackout gown she rocked at the Met Gala last May, the influencer is enjoying a Balenciaga momentum.
As a matter of fact, though Kim and Ye appear to have parted ways for good on a personal level, what still unites them is their manifested appreciation of the French house’s surreal aesthetics: Kanye joins forces with Demna on an exclusive collection for GAP? Fine. Less than a month later, it’s Kimberly’s turn to shine, and what better way to hit back than starring in the label’s new campaign alongside fellow Balenciaga inspirations Isabelle Huppert and Justin Bieber?
Shot by Brooklyn-based photographer Stef Mitchell, the campaign — which launched yesterday and consists of several phases set to be released throughout the season — offers an exclusive, intimate glimpse into the lives of some of the muses and “friends of the brand”. Kim Kardashian is photographed as she unwinds on the couch in her Calabasas home. Award-winning, legendary French actress Isabelle Huppert is captured up-close in her dreamy, sun-kissed Parisian living room, while London-based model and music producer Tommy Blue takes the shoot to his own bedroom. Finally, a change of scenery sees Justin Bieber and Marie-Agnès Diene lensed by Mitchell at their respective studios.
